News - Summer 2008

To all our Dear Friends of Karunya,

This year we are so happy to inform you that Seenuvasan, Sanjiv Gandhi and Jaikumar have all graduated from University.

Jaikumar has a job in a hospital in the intensive care unit working as a respiratory therapist. Seenu has a job in Vellore as a mechanical engineer and Sanjiv Gandhi is finishing his bachelor of science and completing his nursing internship in the hospital at Mangalore. At present Surya is the oldest boy (15 years) in 10th standard.

All the children are studying in the local school and performing well in their studies. Apart from their school activities seven of our girls are learning bharathanatyam dancing. Sandhya continues her third year singing course.

Karunya’s 16th anniversary was celebrated on 6th February. Every Sunday the children enjoy their 14-kilometre walk around the holy mountain Arunachala. Meditation and singing bajans are part of their daily life which we all share together. The children went to Kodaikanal during their summer holidays and had lots of fun.

This year we have been able to install a solar water heating system of 500-litre capacity. It is fantastic! Instant hot water for washing and cooking. This saves so much for our cooking gas and prevents colds and fevers for the children in winter. Our property in now fenced for the safety of the little children.

All the children are growing well, progressing in their studies and living a happy and peaceful life.
